Navel piercing problems?

I have had my navel pierced for about 9 weeks, and for awhile it was doing very well. No irritation or redness. Yesterday, I changed my jewelry as I have done several times before without problems. When I slid the jewelry in, it came out with a thin piece of skin wrapped around it, i pulled the skin off, not really thinking anything of it as it had happened before. I took the jewelry back out and cleaned it a little more with salt water and pressed up on it to make sure anything inside was out. When I did this, it was almost like i was pushing the insides out of the top hole. It was like clear flesh and a little bloody. Now it's swollen, sore and red. My question is, has this happened to anyone and did the piercing ultimately heal or reject?
